In Boardwarlk, a collection of figures are rendered against a simplified town landscape, their forms softened by Conn’s delicate brushwork and subtle use of light. The subjects have their backs turned and are looking at something just out of frame, somewhat a trademark of Conn's work.

Condition: No significant paint loss. Some surface marks from storage, pictured. Minor wear along the edges and corners of the canvas.

"While not widely exhibited during his lifetime, Conn has attracted growing interest among collectors of 20th-century figurative painting for his unique transatlantic sensibility and restrained, contemplative compositions." — Charlie Porter, TAT London

Budwin Conn was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1927. He grew up in New York, studying under the painter Hans Hofmann (a close friend of Jackson Pollock), the sculptor Milton Horne and the artist Edward Melcarth. He lived subsequently in Italy, England and Spain and travelled widely across Europe. His skill lay in the deft depiction of the human figure in compositions that were naturalistic and representational; with summery colours disrupted by an intriguing uncertainty of mood. Conn held solo exhibitions in New York, Italy, France and Spain from 1959-1987.
