Large scale oil on canvas by American artist Budwin Conn (1927-2007). A wonderful example of American Realism. Included with this piece is Conn's black and white photograph of the subject that inspired the painting, unframed, 9.5 x 14.5cm.

Dimensions: 97 x 130cm

Budwin Conn was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1927. He grew up in New York, studying under the painter Hans Hofmann (a close friend of Jackson Pollock), the sculptor Milton Horne and the artist Edward Melcarth. He lived subsequently in Italy, England and Spain and travelled widely across Europe. His skill lay in the deft depiction of the human figure in compositions that were naturalistic and representational; with summery colours disrupted by an intriguing uncertainty of mood. Conn held solo exhibitions in New York, Italy, France and Spain from 1959-1987.
